Radiology Rounds - June 2007 - Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis is a newly discovered disease that has been associated with the use of gadolinium-based MRI contrast agents in patients with severe renal disease, most commonly those on dialysis If the patient has risk factors for kidney disease (> 60 years, diabetes, systemic lupus erythematosis, history of renal disease, multiple myeloma), a BUN/creatinine must be performed within 1 month of examination Consultation with a radiologist is suggested before administrating Gd contrast agents to a pediatric patient or a patient with a eGFR of <60 ml/min/m2 It is advisable that no patient with an eGFR of <30 ml/min/m2 (Stage 4 or 5 kidney disease) should receive Gd contrast agents unless the benefits are deemed to outweigh the risks

Radiology Rounds - October 2010 - Gadoxetic Acid (Eovist) and Hepatobiliary MR Imaging
Gadolinium-ethoxybenzyl-diethylene triamine penta-acetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA), which is marketed as Eovist® (gadoxetic acid disodium), is a new hepatobiliary imaging agent that was approved for clinical use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2008. Gadoxetic acid is specifically taken up by hepatocytes using the same molecular mechanism as bile acid. It is eliminated from the body in equa...
متن کاملNo Association between Gadolinium-Based Contrast Agents and Development of Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis: a Case Study
Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF), previously known as nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy, is an emerging systemic fibrosing disorder that develops in the setting of renal insufficiency. Nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy (NFD) is a fibrosing condition of the skin which shows an increased number of dendritic cells, fibroblasts and thickened collagen fibers resembling scleromyxedema. It is charact...
متن کاملGadolinium deposition in nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy.
There is growing recognition of the association between the use of gadolinium-containing radiocontrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging and the serious dermal and systemic disease nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy/nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NFD/NSF). The pathogenesis of this entity remains unclear; however, our recent observations suggest a likely mechanism for the initial dermal manife...
متن کاملNephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF): a late adverse reaction to some of the gadolinium based contrast agents
Until recently it was believed that extracellular gadolinium based contrast agents were safe for both the kidneys and all other organs within the dose range up to 0.3 mmol/kg body weight. However, in 2006, it was demonstrated that some gadolinium based contrast agents may trigger the development of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis, a generalised fibrotic disorder, in renal failure patients. Accord...
